NRL celebrates International Women’s Day with enthusiasm

New Delhi/Numaligarh: Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS), NRL Chapter celebrated International Women's Day 2021 in a befitting manner on March 8.

At Numaligarh, WIPS NRL (Numaligarh Refinery Limited) Chapter members assembled early in the morning at NRL Township gate and distributed gift packs of hygiene items viz. soap, dettol, sanitizer, mask and sanitary pads to lady contract workers entering the township. Later in the morning, a workshop on health and wellness was conducted for women employees of NRL and its associated organisations viz. VK-NRL Hospital, VK-NRL School of Nursing, Delhi Public School, Numaligarh, Assam Bio Refinery Pvt. Ltd. and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The prime objective of the program was to help women adopt a life of holistic wellness for their all-around well-being. In the evening, a formal women's day function was held with three distinguished women as invited guests viz. Roshni Aparanji Korati (IAS) Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat; Dr Reeta Sarmah, Principal, Jorhat Engineering College and Nitisha Bora, ACS Election Officer, Bokakhat. The program was also attended by NRL's Managing Director SK Barua, Director (Technical) BJ Phukan, Director (Finance) I Mittra and other senior officials of NRL.

Deputy Commissioner Korati spoke about domestic violence and the stereotypes related to women prevailing in society. She also highlighted the difference of mental buildup of men and women. Dr Reeta Sarmah spoke about her struggle during the course of her education in Jorhat Engineering College, from where she passed out as first female graduate in mechanical engineering. Nitisha Bora spoke about her mother's support in building her career. A cultural program was also organised where members performed songs and dances.

At Guwahati, WIPS NRL Guwahati Chapter celebrated women's day at Mother Old Age Home, Sijubari, Guwahati. The event was attended by all women employees, retired employees, -contractual staff and apprentices of NRL Guwahati Corporate office, Marketing Office & Project Office. The women spend a fruitful and satisfying day interacting with the senior citizens of the old age home. A song and dance session was also organised on the occasion where the elderly citizens participated wholeheartedly followed by the distribution of gifts to the inmates of the home.
