Unit 2 of NTPC’s 660 MW Tanda Super Thermal Power Station in UP completes trial run

With successful completion of the trial operation by Unit-2 of 660 MW capacity of Tanda Super Thermal Power Station in Uttar Pradesh, the NTPC Group installed capacity has risen to 65,810 MW

New Delhi: State-run Maharatna Power PSU NTPC Limited is now set to add a capacity of 660 MW as Unit-2 of 660 MW Tanda Super Thermal Power Station has successfully completed the trial run. "With successful completion of the trial operation by Unit-2 of 660 MW capacity of Tanda Super Thermal Power Station in Uttar Pradesh (U.P) Stage-II (2 x 660 MW), the NTPC installed capacity has risen to 65,810 MW," NTPC said in an official press release on Monday.

"NTPC is striving to achieve the highest reliability and efficiency keeping safety and environmental issues on top. With the global shift in energy space, NTPC is increasingly emphasising ESG and changed its focus to renewable for future growth while improving on sustainability matrix. Sustained efforts are underway for transforming into an integrated energy company," said the statement.

This is the second thermal power capacity addition announced by NTPC in 2021 after it said in January that its Meja Thermal Power Project became fully operational on January 31 with the Unit-II commencing commercial operation. Meja Thermal Power Project is a coal-based thermal power plant located in Meja Tehsil in Allahabad district, Uttar Pradesh. The planned capacity of the power plant is 1,320 MW (2x660MW). 

NTPC Group has 70 power stations, including 26 renewable projects. The group has over 18 GW of capacity under construction, including 5 GW of renewable energy projects.
