NTPC’s Jetsar solar power project in Rajasthan becomes fully operational

New Delhi: NTPC Limited's 160 MW Jetsar solar power project in Rajasthan has become fully commercially operational as the last 80 MW capacity was commissioned by the Maharatna PSU recently. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Saturday, NTPC said, "Consequent upon successful commissioning and due approvals, last part capacity of 80 MW out of 160 MW Jetsar Solar PV Project at Rajasthan, is declared on Commercial Operation w.e.f. 25.03.2022."

Jetsar solar power project

NTPC's Jetsar solar power project first became commercially operational on October 22, 2021. The 160 MW Solar PV project in Rajasthan has been developed on 844 acres land provided by National Seeds Corporation Ltd (NSCL) under lease model. The project has been won by NTPC under the tariff-based competitive bidding conducted in 2019 by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for the solar project located in Rajasthan. The project is expected to generate 387 Million Units (MU) of electricity.

With this, the standalone installed and commercial capacity of NTPC has become 54,596.68 MW, while group installed and commercial capacity of NTPC has become 68,961.68 MW and 68,301.68 MW, respectively, said NTPC.

Background

NTPC Ltd has doubled its renewable energy (RE) target for 2032 from 32 GW to 60 GW of solar and wind power. The news comes a day after the PSU declared the first part capacity of 22 MW out of 92 MW Kayamkulam floating solar power project in Kerala commercially operational on April 1.
