NTPC commissions 2nd 800 MW unit of Lara thermal power project

The second 800 MW unit of NTPC’s Lara super thermal power project has become commercially operational on Monday after the successful completion of the trial operation

New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, said on Monday that the second 800 MW unit of its Lara super thermal power station has become commercially operational on Monday after successful completion of the trial operation. This information was shared by NTPC Limited in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on July 20.

With the addition of this unit, the commercial capacity of Lara Super Thermal Power Station has become 1,600 MW, and that of and NTPC  and NTPC Group stands at 51,155  MW and 62,910 MW, respectively.

NTPC's Lara Super Thermal Power Station located near village Lara, Taluk Pussore, Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh, has a total installed capacity of 1,600 MW (2 units of 800MW each). The first unit of the plant has been operational since September 30, 2019.

The present installed capacity of NTPC Limited is 6,2,910 MW (including 11,755 MW through JVs and subsidiaries), comprising of 70 NTPC stations (24 coal-based stations, 7 combined cycle gas and liquid fuel based stations, 2 hydro based station, 1 wind-based station), 25 Joint Venture stations (9 coal-based and 4 gas based) and 12 renewable energy projects. The company aims to achieve a total installed capacity of 130 GW by 2032.
