PESB picks CCL’s Bhola Singh for NCL’s CMD post

Bhola Singh, who is currently serving as Director (Technical/P&P) in Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), has been recommended for the post of CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL)

New Delhi: Bhola Singh is set to be the next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). He has been recommended for the post by a panel of the Public Enterprises Selection (PESB) board on Thursday. He is currently serving as Director (Technical/P&P) in Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). The NCL's CMD post will fall vacant on January 1, 2022, which is currently being held by PK Sinha.

Singh has been recommended for the post of CMD of NCL from a list of 10 candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. There was a total of two candidates each from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and Indian Railways; and one each from Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), NLC India Limited and India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

Singh is an Engineering Graduate (B Tech Hons.) in Mining Engineering from IIT, Kharagpur. He has over 32 years of professional experience as a mining engineer in reputed public and private sector organisations. He started his career with NCL in 1987 as Graduate Engineer Trainee. Working at NCL at the early stage of his career, benefited him professionally in achieving excellence in production, productivity, safety, environment and overall mine management. He introduced Cast Blasting & Eco-friendly Electronic detonation in NCL mines too. He has published many technical papers on blasting and rock fragmentation in journals of national and international repute.

In 2008, Singh joined AES (USA based MNC) as the Head of a Greenfield mining project in Chhattisgarh. Later on, he worked for Manoharpur Coal Blocks allotted to Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC). Before joining CCL, Singh has to his credit of working as Project Director at Sasan Power Limited having the distinction of being the country's first Ultra Mega Power Project (6X660MW) catered through a highly mechanized Moher & Moher Amlori Extension coal mining Project at Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh.

As CMD of NCL, Singh will be the Chief Executive of the corporation and will be accountable to the Board of Directors and government and share-holders. He also will be responsible for the efficient functioning of the corporation for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.
