Power Cup 2021: Power Secretary inaugurates T-20 cricket tournament

Ministry of Power has won the first match of the ‘Power Cup 2021 T-20,’ which was played between the NHPC and Power Ministry on Saturday

New Delhi: Power Cup 2021(Delhi), a T-20 cricket tournament is being organised from February 20 to March 21, 2021, amongst teams from various power sector CPSUs and the Ministry of Power. Ministry of Power's Secretary Alok Kumar inaugurated the tournament on Saturday at NMAKP Sports Complex, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi.  NHPC Limited, a Miniratna hydropower PSU under the leadership of AK Singh is the nodal organisation for organising this tournament.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said that the government has extended his good wishes to all the participating teams of the tournament. He further said that sports provide an excellent platform for personality development and building up team spirit and camaraderie amongst the Ministry of Power and Central Power Sector PSUs.

In his welcome address, CMD extended his gratitude to Secretary (Power), for sparing time from his busy schedule and coming and encouraging all the players taking part in the tournament. He informed that the tournament is seeing the participation of eight teams including teams of Ministry of Power, NHPC, Power Grid, NTPC, PFC, POSOCO, EESL and REC. He also mentioned that a friendly cricket match has been recently played between the Ministry of Power and Power CPSU team wherein Power Ministry RK Singh had said that organising sporting events among power PSUs and organisations are ideal for bringing cohesion and team building amongst various organisations under the Ministry of Power. NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh, PFC CMD RS Dhillon, POSOCO CMD KVS Baba, EESL's Executive Vice Chairman Saurabh Kumar, NHPC's Director (Personnel) NK Jain, NHPC's Director (Technical) YK Chaubey and other senior officers from the participating organisations were also present on the occasion.

The inaugural match of the tournament has been played Ministry of Power versus NHPC at NMAKP Sports Complex, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi. The match was won by the Ministry of Power by 2 wickets which scored 99 in 19 overs after bowling out NHPC for 98 runs in 20 overs. In the other league matches of the tournament, NTPC won against POSOCO by 4 wickets by scoring 113 runs in 20 overs with a loss of 6 wickets against 112 runs scored by POSOCO, POWERGRID won against REC by 77 runs after posting a score of 169 and bowling out REC for 92 runs and PFC won against EESL by 7 wickets by scoring 98 with loss of 3 wickets against 97 scored by EESL.
