Rajiv Jalota (IAS) gets tenure extension as Chairperson of Mormugao Port Trust

New Delhi: Mumbai Port Trust's Chairperson Rajiv Jalota (IAS), who is currently holding additional charge of the post of Chairperson of Mormugao Port Trust, has been given a tenure extension on his additional charge. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways for an extension in Jalota's tenure on Saturday.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the services of the IAS officer as Chairperson of Mormugao Port Trust have been extended for a period of six months with effect from December 3, 2021, or till the post is filled up on a regular basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Jalota has been holding additional charge of the post since June 3 this year.

Jalota is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Maharashtra cadre. He is currently serving as the Chairperson of Mumbai Port Trust under the Ministry of Shipping. Prior to this, he was serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of Higher and Technical Education in the state government of Maharashtra.

Jalota is a science graduate (MSc in Organic Chemistry) from Lucknow University. He has also done an MA in International Development Policy from the Duke University of USA. In his career spanning over three decades, he has held various important positions in the state government of Maharashtra, including as Collector of Yavatmal, Collector of Latur, Managing Director (MD) & CEO of SICOM India Limited (Mumbai), Commissioner of Employment and Self Employment, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (MCGM), among others.

Mormugao Port Trust is a port on the western coast of India in the coastal state of Goa. Commissioned in 1885 on the site of a natural harbour, it is one of India's oldest ports. The port employs around 2,600 employees and has about 4,000 pensioners.
