RINL dispatched 11,900 MT of liquid medical Oxygen since onset of pandemic

RINL-Vizag Steel has already supplied 3,050 MT of liquid medical Oxygen till Wednesday since April 13 and cumulative dispatch has crossed 11,900 MT mark since onset of pandemic

New Delhi: RINL, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) stands with the nation during these turbulent times of the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to supply liquid medical Oxygen in large quantities under the guidance of the Ministry of Steel and the government of India. The five units of Oxygen making plants in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant are in full operation and loading & dispatching of cryogenic rankers with liquid medical Oxygen at the site is continued.

Rising to the demand of liquid medical Oxygen nationwide for COVID patients RINL-Vizag Steel has already supplied 3,050 MT of liquid medical Oxygen till Wednesday since April 13 and cumulative dispatch has crossed the 11,900 MT mark since the onset of Covid-19 second wave. This is being dispatched primarily to Andhra Pradesh state and as per the government directives also extending support to Karnataka. On 22nd April also the first Oxygen Express carrying 100 MT of liquid medical Oxygen in seven cryogenic tankers was dispatched to Maharashtra to meet the critical medical emergencies in the state.

Activities for commissioning the new 2×850 TPD Oxygen plant, which has been under arbitration, has begun at site with RINL taking some proactive positive steps with the agency ALIH. Experts from the agency have already arrived at the site for health assessment of installed plant and pieces of machinery which will be followed by trial runs of equipment and later integrated trial runs before commissioning and production of LMO. The new plant will generate 100 MT liquid medical Oxygen.

Preparedness for 1,000 Bed COVID care hospital facility in full swing 

In addition to the supply of Oxygen, RINL-Vizag Steel is also preparing to establish a 1,000 bed COVID Care Center facility. In the first step the facility is being made ready at Gurajada Kalakshetram at Ukkunagaram. The cots required for this massive arrangement are being manufactured inside the works division of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Arrangements have been made for continuous supply of oxygen near the beds for the COVID patient at Gurajada Kalakshetram. Further in phased manner various community halls and public halls/spaces will be converted into hospital wards for treatment of COVID patients.
