New Delhi: SCOPE organised the 16th training programme on corporate governance themed "Effective Directors for Sustainable Competitiveness" on Thursday. Atanu Chakraborty, IAS, Secretary, Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM) inaugurated the programme in the presence of Ved Prakash, Chairman, SCOPE & CMD, MMTC, Dr UD Choubey, Director General, SCOPE, Prof YRK Reddy and Peter Greenwood, Lead resource persons and a host of other CEOs/Directors of PSEs.

Chakraborty, who was the chief guest at the event, inaugurated the programme and said that directors represent all stakeholders on the board of public sector enterprises. He said functional directors depict the organisation collectively rather than a specific vertical of the organisation. He advocated best practices in corporate governance and stressed on enhancing the core values.

Choubey said that Independent Directors are the conscience keepers of the organisation and they ensure that the board takes a decision based on ethics, transparency, integrity and responsiveness, which are the four pillars of corporate governance

Prakash, in his address, said that in the fast-changing global environment, Indian PSEs shall act proactively to overcome technological disruptions. He added that corporate governance is critical in PSEs to carry forward the government's agenda. He hoped that PSEs in India will set a benchmark for organisations across the globe when it comes to corporate governance standards.

Choubey said that Independent Directors are the conscience keepers of the organisation and they ensure that the board takes a decision based on ethics, transparency, integrity and responsiveness, which are the four pillars of corporate governance. The evaluation of Corporate Governance, he pointed out, is based on the satisfaction of customers, suppliers, investors, employees, government and people at large.

The programme was attended by CMDs, Directors and Senior Executives of PSEs.
