New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Surender Mehra (IFoS) as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on April 23. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Mehra has been appointed to the post for a period of up to February 4, 2024 (combined 5 years) from the date of taking over charge of the post pr until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Mehra is an Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer of the 1999-batch. He is an engineering graduate from NIT-Kurukshetra and an alumnus of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU). He has held as Field Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve. Currently, he is serving as DIG of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is an Indian government enterprise and a telecommunications service provider headquartered in New Delhi. It is under the ownership of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India. It was incorporated on October 1, 2000, by the government. Its top official is designated as Chairman and Managing Director, a central government engineer and a Group A Gazetted Officer of the ITS cadre. It provides mobile voice and internet services through its nationwide telecommunications network across India. It is the largest wireline telecommunications network service provider in India with more than 50% market share and the fourth-largest wireless telecommunications operator.
