New Delhi: In a move that can be a potential game-changer in the petroleum fuel retail market in India, Indian Oil has launched world-class premium-grade Petrol (100 Octane) in the country on December 1. This premium petrol which is meant for high-end bikes and cars will be sold at Rs 160 per litre. Branded as XP100, the premium grade petrol was launched across ten cities by Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) Dharmendra Pradhan in the virtual presence of MoPNG's Secretary Tarun Kapoor, Indian Oil's Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Indian Oil's Director (R&D) Dr SSV Ramakumar, Indian Oil's Director (Marketing) Gurmeet Singh and other senior officials.
Octane rating in petrol is the measure of the fuel's ability to resist "knocking" or "pinging" during combustion, caused by the air/fuel mixture detonating prematurely in the engine. Typically unleaded petrol has octane ratings of 87 for regular and 91–94 for premium petrol. This is the first time that petrol with 100 Octane rating has been provided in India.
Well, ideally you should use the octane rating required for your vehicle by the manufacturer. So, you got to check your owner's manual. Usually, most petrol vehicles are designed to run on regular 87 Octane, but others are designed to use higher octane fuel.
While speaking on the occasion Vaidya said, "XP100 is an ultra-modern, ultra-premium product designed to thrill your senses. It is the finest grade of petrol to give your vehicle higher power & performance and give you a delightful drive." Indian Oil plans to roll-out XP100 premium grade petrol in 15 identified cities across the country in two phases. In the first phase, it has been made available at select ROs with effect from December 1, in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. In the second phase, the availability of this 100 Octane petrol would be extended to Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. These cities have been selected basis their aspirational demographics and availability of high-end vehicles in these cities.
