Vivek Kumar Dewangan takes charge as new REC CMD

Vivek Kumar Dewangan, a 1993-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of the Manipur cadre, has assumed charge as new REC CMD

New Delhi: Vivek Kumar Dewangan (IAS) has assumed charge as new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of REC Limited, a PSU under the Ministry of Power, on May 17. Dewangan is a 1993-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of the Manipur cadre. Previously, he was serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power.

Dewangan holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics from NIT, Bhopal and a postgraduate degree in optoelectronics & optical communication from IIT-Delhi.

During his illustrious career as an IAS officer, he has held various administrative positions in the areas of finance, power, energy, petroleum & natural gas, elections, law & justice, commerce & industries, Minister's Office [Corporate Affairs / Agriculture & Food Processing Industries], education, human resource development, sericulture, agriculture & cooperation, economic affairs, economics & statistics, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, District Administration [Surguja & Raipur District in Chattisgarh and Senapati District in Manipur] and Revenue Administration.

Vivek Kumar Dewangan is also the ex-officio Chairman of REC's wholly-owned subsidiary REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (formerly known as REC Power Distribution Company Limited).

Speaking on the occasion, Dewangan said "REC is a corporation of national importance and has always been and shall continue to be the Government's biggest partner in achieving India's national and international goals. On the business front, there is a need to diversify further into green and sustainable technologies, as well as, newer geographies."
