New Delhi: Vejendla Srinivasa Chakravarthy has taken charge as Director (Commercial) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on December 24, 2021. Prior to this, he was serving as Executive Director in the same organisation. Chakravarthy is a Chemical Engineer from the Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Nagpur University, He joined SAIL in 1987 in the company's Central Marketing Organisation.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved the appointment of Chakravarthy as Director (Commercial) of SAIL on December 23. According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Chakravarthy has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from December 24, till the date of his superannuation i.e. June 30, 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He was recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection (PESB) board panel in September this year.

Rising through the ranks, Chakravarthy became the Executive Director, Marketing in SAIL before taking over as the Director (Commercial) of the company. He is known for his commercial and marketing acumen. Chakravarthy has worked on various important projects including formulation of the company's Annual Business Plan for Marketing and contributed to production planning which has guided the company's long term marketing strategy.

Chakravarthy has taken several new initiatives during his tenure and postings at various marketing verticals in SAIL, which has helped in expanding the company's base and making inroads in the market. As Executive Director, he has contributed to the formulation and implementation of various products and price strategies.
