New Delhi: BEML Limited has been awarded the 'Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award 2025' for its groundbreaking All-Electric BRS-21 Rope Shovel. The award recognises BEML’s significant strides in green technology and its commitment to sustainable innovation in the mining equipment sector.
The award was presented at a formal ceremony attended by industry leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries. BEML's Director (Operations) Rajeev Kumar Gupta received the award on behalf of the organisation. The award has been conferred by the Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Government of India HD Kumaraswamy.
The BRS-21 Rope Shovel is a landmark achievement in India’s mining equipment industry, being the country’s first indigenously designed and developed all-electric rope shovel. Developed entirely in-house by BEML’s engineering team, the machine is aimed at eliminating the use of diesel engines in large-scale mining operations, thereby reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and lowering operational costs.
Instituted by the Institute of Directors (IOD), the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award recognises organisations that demonstrate excellence in environment-friendly innovation. BEML’s recognition underlines its leadership in advancing green technologies within India’s heavy engineering and mining sectors—critical components of the nation’s industrial and economic growth.
This achievement also aligns with key national objectives, including the Make in India initiative, the pursuit of sustainability, and India’s Net Zero ambitions. With this milestone, BEML continues to strengthen its position as a provider of world-class, eco-friendly engineering solutions.
