Diesel outpaces petrol

BPCL's diesel sales crossed 21 lakh metric tonnes (MT) during the month, a rise of 6.72 percent over the corresponding period a year ago, the company said. It attributed the demand to logistics movement, infrastructure development, industrial activity and agricultural operations across several regions.

Petrol sales stood at more than 10.5 lakh MT, up 4.29 percent year-on-year, which the company linked to continued personal mobility, higher road travel and sustained consumer activity in urban and semi-urban markets. The absolute petrol and diesel volumes were disclosed as approximate figures, with only the growth rates stated precisely.

LPG refills cross 3.51 crore

LPG refill activity remained strong, with BPCL delivering over 3.51 crore refills in May 2026. This comprised 33,928,057 domestic cylinder refills, 832,257 commercial cylinder refills and 358,400 Bharatgas Mini cylinder refills, the company said, across its domestic, commercial and Bharatgas Mini segments.

Company cites demand strength

A BPCL spokesperson said the growth across key product categories during May 2026 reflects "the strong underlying demand fundamentals of the Indian economy." The spokesperson said BPCL "remains committed to ensuring reliable energy availability through its robust supply chain, extensive distribution network and customer-centric operations," adding that the company "continues to invest in strengthening energy infrastructure while meeting the evolving energy needs of the nation." BPCL is India's second-largest fuel retailer.
