At the event, Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism, lauded the refinery’s role in strengthening Kerala’s economy, energy security, and employment generation. “Kochi Refinery has become more than just an oil & gas entity; it has emerged as an institution of trust,” he said.

Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) and additional charge CMD, highlighted BPCL’s strong Q1 performance and the refinery’s initiatives in reducing its Energy Intensity Index and cutting raw water consumption by up to 25 percent through recycling and conservation measures.

Commissioned in 1966 as Cochin Refineries Limited in collaboration with Phillips Petroleum, USA, the refinery today operates at a capacity of 15.5 MMTPA. Its portfolio spans fuels, petrochemicals, and specialty products, with significant investments underway, including a Rs 5,044 crore Polypropylene Unit of 400 KTPA capacity.

BPCL said the milestone reaffirms Kochi Refinery’s transformation from a modest start to a key pillar of India’s energy and petrochemicals sector.
