New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase 2A of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, extending the network from Koteshwar Road to the Airport through a 6.032-km corridor comprising five stations.

The project, with a total completion cost of Rs 2,169.04 crore, will include four elevated stations and one underground station. Upon completion, the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network will expand to 77.63 km.
According to the government, the new corridor will provide seamless connectivity to the airport while linking key residential and commercial areas with the existing metro network. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve urban mobility, lower carbon emissions, and support economic growth by enhancing access to major transport hubs.

The Metro expansion is also expected to generate employment for around 2,000 people during peak construction activity and about 500 jobs during the operation and maintenance phase.
