Coal India has submitted EoI for Lithium assets in Chile

Coal India has also submitted an Expression of Interest (EoI) against RFI floated by the government of Chile for the development of projects for the exploration, extraction and processing of lithium-contained salts or other types of deposits in Chile. CIL has signed non-disclosure agreements with companies from different countries for checking feasibility of potential investment in the critical mineral projects, said the minister.

India’s quest for critical minerals

Critical minerals are used widely across the renewable energy value chain, and especially in the manufacturing of batteries. India, which is looking to expand its renewable energy sector across the value chain, right from renewable energy generation to battery energy storage and green hydrogen production, is looking to secure the supply of critical minerals from abroad since it does not have enough reserves at home.
