New Delhi: Climate Change-induced erratic weather patterns resulted in adverse hydrological conditions for our flagship hydro projects, said SJVN Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sushil Sharma. “Financial year 2023-24 has been a challenging year for the company on the operational front. The impact of Climate Change is becoming visible in the form of erratic weather patterns across the globe,” said the SJVN CMD in the company’s annual report for 2023-24.
“Heavy rains and flash floods during the peak generation period followed by sub-normal discharge during the remaining part of the year resulted in adverse hydrological conditions for our flagship hydro projects,” said Sharma.
“However, notwithstanding the vagaries of nature, we have ensured the best Plant Availability in our operational plants which is the only factor within our control. A total of 8,489 MU of power was generated by our operational plants which includes 8,131 MU of hydropower, 207 MU of solar power and 151 MU of wind power,” said the SJVN CMD.
Currently, four hydro projects of 1,558 MW, one thermal project of 1,320 MW, 12 renewable projects of 2,048 MW and one transmission line of 217 km are under construction, said the SJVN CMD. Thirteen hydro projects of 3,791 MW, one thermal unit of 800 MW and one Pumped Storage Project (PSP) of 2,400 MW are under survey and investigation. Around 19 hydro and PSP projects of 12,242 MW and six renewable energy projects of 21,100 MW are under allotment, the CMD added.
SJVN has been assigned the target of achieving power generation of 13,680 MU and capex of Rs 12,000 crore for FY2024-25, said the CMD. “FY2024-25 shall be especially significant as one thermal project of 1,320 MW, 10 solar projects totalling 2,350 MW are slated for completion and commissioning during the year,” he added.
