CMPDI initiates deep-seated coal exploration in BCCL’s Chanch Block

CMPDI commenced exploration of deep-seated coal seams in the Chanch Block of the C.V. Area under Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL)

New Delhi: Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), in collaboration with Sinome Equipment Private Limited, has commenced exploration of deep-seated coal seams in the Chanch Block of the C.V. Area under Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

The initiative marks the beginning of deep coal seam exploration activity in the BCCL command area. The project involves drilling operations through multiple overlying underground workings to assess the potential of deeper coal seams in the region.

According to the company, the outcomes of the exploration are expected to open up new prospects in geologically complex areas with similar mining conditions, thereby enhancing resource assessment capabilities.

Uma Shankar Singh, Regional Director, RI-II, Dhanbad, CMPDI, along with senior officials from CMPDI and BCCL, visited the drilling site on April 16, 2026, to review the progress of the project. During the visit, technical guidance was provided to address geological complexities associated with the block.

The initiative is apart of CMPDI’s continued efforts to strengthen advanced exploration techniques and support coal resource development in challenging mining environments.
