Coal supplies to the power sector grew 4.5 percent to 48.46 MT during August FY27 from 46.39 MT a year earlier. Supplies to the non-regulated sector (NRS) recorded a higher growth of 9.6 percent, rising to 12.12 MT from 11.06 MT during the same month last year.

For the April-August period of FY27, CIL’s total coal supplies stood at 322.90 MT, registering a 6.7 percent increase over 302.60 MT supplied during the corresponding period of FY26.

The higher supplies have also helped CIL liquidate around 55 MT of pithead coal stocks during the first five months of the current financial year. The company currently has around 76 MT of coal available at its pitheads, providing inventory support for power generation requirements in the coming months.

With the monsoon gradually receding and drier months approaching, CIL is preparing to ramp up both coal production and supplies in the coming period.
