According to official statement of the Ministry of Coal, the latest auction round is aimed at expanding transparency, competition, and self-reliance in the coal sector. Since the launch of the commercial coal auction framework in 2020, the initiative has consistently attracted strong participation from both established players and new entrants, helping boost domestic coal production and reduce import dependence.

The 13th round will offer a new set of fully explored and partially explored coal blocks, designed with liberal terms to promote ease of doing business and attract wider investments, including from technology-driven enterprises. The round is also expected to highlight opportunities in underground and surface coal gasification.

In addition to the auction launch, the Ministry will facilitate the signing of Coal Mine Development & Production Agreements (CMDPAs) for 11 mines that were successfully allocated in earlier rounds.

The Ministry of Coal has said the process is part of ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring a steady supply of coal for India’s growing energy needs while creating a more competitive and investor-friendly ecosystem.
