Coal will remain mainstay of India's primary energy supply: Coal India Chairman

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) Chairman PM Prasad stated that coal is the country’s most important source of electricity and will remain the mainstay of India’s primary energy supply while addressing the 74th All India Commerce Conference of the Indian Commerce Association, organised by the University of Delhi.

Acknowledging the growing potential of renewable energy, he outlined a strategic plan for phasing down coal, taking into consideration the socio-economic effects on families reliant on coal mining. Prasad expressed gratitude towards the resilience demonstrated by coal miners, particularly during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
