New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to achieve a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Janakpuri West - Krishna Park Extension section on the Magenta Line, marking the launch of the first segment under its Phase-IV network. The new stretch will be open to passenger services from 3 PM today (i.e. Sunday).
This extension, part of the existing Botanical Garden – Janakpuri West Magenta Line, enhances the Delhi Metro’s connectivity footprint. With the addition of the Krishna Park Extension Station, the Delhi Metro network now comprises 289 stations and stretches across a total length of 394.448 kilometres. The Magenta Line, following this extension, will now span approximately 40 kilometres, providing improved transit options for commuters in the surrounding areas.
Initially, train services between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension will operate at a frequency of 16 minutes, ensuring smooth and efficient travel. This development is expected to ease commuting for residents in the vicinity and bolster last-mile connectivity. Work on the remaining extension of the Magenta Line, which will extend from Krishna Park Extension to RK Ashram Marg, is underway and is slated for completion by 2026.
The inauguration ceremony will be graced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apart from inaugurating the new section, he will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the 26.5-kilometer-long Rithala - Narela - Kundli (Sonipat) Metro corridor under Phase-IV. The proposed corridor is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity between Delhi and the adjoining regions of Haryana.
With its focus on expanding infrastructure and delivering world-class services, the Delhi Metro remains a cornerstone of the city’s public transport system, contributing significantly to sustainable urban development.
