New Delhi: As the government is lifting the lockdown in a gradual manner, the movement of the commuters has also increased. Keeping this in the mind the Delhi Metro has resumed its operations on Yellow, Blue & Pink Lines. However, all the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and strict safety measures are being followed. With the resumption metro services on Red, Violet & Green, Delhi Metro is planning to resume services on Red, Violet & Green Lines from September 10, in a gradual manner.
In a statement, the Delhi Metro said, "DMRC will be running 35 trains on Red Line (Rithala – Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda) performing around 413 train trips during morning and evening hours on September 10. Similarly, 40 trains with approx. 344 trips will be put into service on the Violet Line (Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh). On the Green Line (Kirtinagar/Inderlok- Brig. Hoshiar Singh), 20 trains with 268 train trips will be put into service. The trips will be subsequently increased as the operational timing of services will be extended on September 11 & 12 with the opening of other Lines in a graded manner."
Delhi Metro has seen a significant increase in the commuters on Wednesday. With the services available on multiple lines from Wednesday (Yellow, Blue and Pink Lines), the total ridership was approx. 33,300 in the morning hours of 7 AM to 11 AM. The total ridership includes the ridership of Yellow Line, Blue Line and Pink Lines of 21,900; 9,600 and 1,800 respectively.
In an official statement the DMRC said, "However, it is clarified that actual utilisation of a Metro system is reflected from the number of journeys performed by a passenger in completing his/her journey by using one or more lines (line utilisation) and not by ridership alone. Therefore, provision of sharing ridership figures is an interim arrangement till all lines are re-opened by September 12."
To reflect the true utilisation of Delhi Metro's network by passengers, DMRC will revert to line utilisation (passenger journeys) figures after September 12.
