East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (EWDFC)

East–West Dedicated Freight Corridor was first announced by then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in 2016-17 while presenting the Railway Budget. It will be a freight-specific corridor which will connect Dhankuni in West Bengal and Palghar in Maharashtra to facilitate the movement of cargo between the eastern and western parts of India.

The EWDFC is part of India’s broader plan to modernise its freight transport network. The concept of Dedicated Freight Corridors was first introduced in the mid-2000s to separate freight and passenger traffic, thereby improving efficiency and reducing delays.
