DFS Secretary visits Gram Panchayat camp in Sikkim, interacts with locals & business correspondents

New Delhi: The Department of Financial Services (DFS) said in a tweet on Friday that Dr Vivek Joshi, Secretary visited a Gram Panchayat (GP) camp at Melli dara Paiyong, a border village in South Sikkim District. During the camp, he also interacted with local villagers and business correspondents.

The camp is being held as a part of three months Jansuraksha saturation campaign at the GP level. The campaign began on April 1 and will end on June 30, it added. The campaign was held across all the gram panchayats to cover all eligible persons under the PMJJBY and PMSBY.

'Nodal officers to undertake field visits for monitoring campaign'

As per the statement released by the Finance Ministry on March 31, "All Nodal Officers from DFS have been instructed to participate in the special SLBC/ UTLBC meetings and to undertake field visits for monitoring the Gram Panchayat level saturation campaign." Further, it said that the "camps will be organised at the Gram Panchayat level across all districts by the banks with the active participation of the state administration and other ministries to ensure that benefits of the two Jan Suraksha schemes including, PMJJBY and PMSBY reach the masses."

"Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) are aimed at providing life and accidental insurance cover to the citizens, especially those who are belonging from the marginalised sections of society. PMJJBY provides insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh in the event of death due to any reason whereas PMSBY provides accidental insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh for death or full permanent disability and Rs 1 lakh in case of partial permanent disability. The two schemes provide much-needed financial support to the subscribers and/or their families in such eventualities," the statement added.
