New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s energy infrastructure, Engineers India Limited (EIL) has successfully overseen the berthing and discharge of GAIL’s LNG vessel at the Dabhol LNG Terminal, marking the commissioning of a cutting-edge breakwater facility on June 2, 2025.

As the Project Management Consultant (PMC), Engineers India was instrumental in the execution of the project, which transforms the Dabhol facility into an all-weather terminal. Developed by GAIL (India) Limited and executed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the project features a 2.3 km-long Island Rubble Mound Breakwater. The structure, constructed using over 15,500 indigenously developed ACCROPODE™ blocks and 3D ECHOSCOPE® technology, ensures structural integrity and precision placement.

Reinforced with one million cubic meters of boulders in a triple-layered design, the breakwater is engineered to withstand severe marine conditions. The facility was certified as an all-weather port by the NSPC, enabling uninterrupted operations, especially during the southwest monsoon season.

EIL played a pivotal role in coordinating complex engineering tasks, environmental clearances, and the overall execution of the project. Despite a narrow construction window of just five to six months, the project was delivered with world-class standards and efficiency.

The upgraded terminal, with a regasification capacity of 5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), is expected to enhance India's energy security by ensuring year-round LNG supply.

GAIL CMD Sandeep Kumar Gupta was present at the landmark occasion, which celebrated the collaborative efforts of GAIL, L&T and EIL in delivering a critical piece of national energy infrastructure.
