New Delhi: In a significant development for the transportation sector, the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter on June 16 to announce the successful transport of the first Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) for the expansion of Numaligarh Refinery. The cargo, a crucial component for capacity expansion, was transported through the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route from Kolkata using waterways on NW 2 (Brahmaputra).
Sonowal also added that this remarkable achievement highlights the potential of inland waterways and their contribution to the growth and empowerment of Assam and the North East region. The Minister emphasised that the transportation of ODC via waterways aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Transformation through Transportation.
Further, MoPSW Minister said, "I believe that we have entered a momentous occasion in our journey of growth and the cargo movement is going to play a pivotal role in the rapid transformation of our region via an economical, ecological, and sustainable mode of transportation."
