Former Power Grid Chief RK Tyagi elected as member of CIGRE Administrative Council

Former CMD of Power Grid RK Tyagi has been elected as a member of the Administrative Council of CIGRE at the ongoing session in Paris, France

New Delhi: Policy advocacy body Power Foundation of India on Wednesday said its Director General, RK Tyagi, has been elected as a member of the Administrative Council of the International Council on Large Electric Systems.

The administrative council of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) is a key governance body of the organisation, responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing its activities and programmes globally, a Power Foundation of India (PFI) statement said.

Tyagi's election is a recognition of his extensive experience and leadership in the power sector and marks an important milestone in strengthening India’s representation in the global electricity community.

According to the statement, Tyagi, former Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid, has been elected as a member of the Administrative Council of CIGRE at the ongoing session in Paris, France.

"This is an important responsibility and an opportunity to contribute to the global dialogue on the evolution of power systems," the statement quoted Tyagi as saying.

The election assumes significance at a time when the global power sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the rapid integration of renewable energy, grid modernisation, energy storage, digitalisation and the growing need for resilient, flexible and sustainable electricity systems.

CIGRE is a global, non-profit community committed to advancing the knowledge and development of power systems through international collaboration, technical expertise and knowledge sharing.

Power Foundation of India is a think-tank and policy advocacy body under the aegis of the Ministry of Power.
