The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said Gadkari has approved the construction of a 14.9-km four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur section of NH-83 in Tamil Nadu. The project also includes the construction of two additional Road Over Bridges (ROBs) on NH-129A and NH-134A.

According to the Minister, the strategic infrastructure project is expected to strengthen connectivity between industrial centres such as Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore and port towns including Karaikal and Nagapattinam, thereby boosting regional economic activity.

The proposed bypass alignment will start from Adiyakkamangalam–Thandalai and pass through several locations including Athipuliyur, Andipalayam, Kidaramkondan, Pallivaramangalam, Perumpugalur, Elavangarkudi and Anaivadapathy Colony.

The Ministry said the bypass will help decongest Thiruvarur town, reduce travel time by nearly 15 minutes and improve road safety by diverting traffic away from densely populated and commercial areas. The alignment is also expected to improve connectivity to State Highways SH-23 and SH-65, as well as the Thyagaraja Swamy Temple.

Separately, Gadkari chaired a review meeting in New Delhi to assess the quality and maintenance progress of National Highway projects covering 4,335 km in Punjab and 3,332 km in Delhi and Haryana. The review was conducted based on inputs received through media and social media platforms.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers of State Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and project contractors.

During the review, Gadkari directed officials and contractors to accelerate on-ground execution and ensure timely completion of highway projects. He stressed the need for continuous monitoring of project quality and adoption of modern construction technologies and engineering practices to enhance durability and long-term performance of National Highways.

The Minister also underlined the importance of improving riding quality and ensuring seamless connectivity across key highway corridors in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana to provide safer and smoother travel for commuters.
