New Delhi: State-run GAIL (India) Limited has revised the completion schedule of its ambitious Kochi–Koottanad–Bengaluru–Mangaluru Pipeline (KKBMPL) project, extending the timeline to September 2026, citing delays due to non-availability of hindrance-free work fronts.

The decision was approved by the company’s Board of Directors at its meeting held on April 13, according to a regulatory filing to the stock exchnages.

The KKBMPL project, which is a key natural gas pipeline initiative in southern India, has an authorized length of 1,104 km, of which 951 km is currently under execution. As per the latest update, GAIL has laid 919 km of the pipeline, while 657 km has been commissioned so far.

The company attributed the delay in project completion to challenges in securing uninterrupted and obstruction-free work sites, a common issue in large-scale linear infrastructure projects involving multiple jurisdictions and land acquisition complexities.

However, no additional investment is required due to the extension in timeline, GAIL clarified.

The pipeline project is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing natural gas availability across Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, supporting industrial growth, city gas distribution networks, and cleaner energy adoption in the region.
