New Delhi: HLL Lifecare Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has officially entered its Diamond Jubilee year, marking 60 years of service in the healthcare sector. The year-long celebrations were inaugurated on the company’s annual Factory Day at its manufacturing facility in Peroorkada, Thiruvananthapuram.
The event was graced by Dr Anitha Thampi, Chairman and Managing Director of HLL Lifecare, who led the celebrations. In her address, Dr Thampi said, “It is a moment of great pride for HLL, a public sector enterprise, to be stepping into its 60th year. Our Diamond Jubilee marks not only a significant milestone but also a renewed commitment to expanding our footprint across the entire spectrum of healthcare.”
As part of its Diamond Jubilee roadmap, HLL announced strategic plans to diversify into new areas including food and nutrition, mental health, and veterinary care. The company also plans to roll out nationwide symposiums led by leading health experts and undertake year-long public health outreach programmes.
Established on March 1, 1966, HLL began its journey with the manufacturing of condoms and has since grown into a key player in India’s healthcare ecosystem. The company's first factory commenced operations on April 5, 1969, in Peroorkada. Today, HLL markets over 70 products and has ventured into several areas including infrastructure development, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, procurement consultancy, hospital construction, and research and development.
Among its notable initiatives are Hindlabs, which offers affordable diagnostic imaging services; AMRIT Pharmacies, providing low-cost medicines, implants, and life-saving equipment; and HLL Opticals, among others. The company also runs programmes focused on waste management and menstrual hygiene, supporting public health initiatives across the country.
HLL Lifecare operates eight state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and 22 regional offices across India. It manages over 200,000 retail outlets and exports its products to more than 80 countries. The organisation also oversees five subsidiaries, further expanding its global footprint.
The Factory Day celebration included a flag-hoisting ceremony and the inauguration of a newly constructed walkway for employees. Senior company officials including Director (Marketing) N. Ajith, Senior Vice President (T&O) and GBBDD (In-Charge) V. Kuttappan Pillai, Peroorkada Unit Chief L.G. Smitha, and Senior HR Head Ramesh Mohan were present on the occasion.
