New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: In a move aligned with the Government of India’s Skill India Mission, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has launched a dedicated skilling initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of its contract workforce. The two-day Quality Improvement and Compliance Knowledge (QUICK) training programme was inaugurated on April 23, 2025, and is set to benefit around 2,000 contract workmen.
The initiative underscores HSL’s commitment to investing in its "silent workforce" by equipping them with vital skills in Shipbuilding Technology. The programme is designed to enhance both the quality of shipbuilding and the professional development of contract workmen, many of whom are integral to the daily operations of the state-owned defence shipyard.
The inaugural session was led by Capt Venkateswarlu, Director (Shipbuilding), who outlined the objective of the programme and encouraged the participants to focus on developing quality workmanship across all domains of shipbuilding. The training is being delivered in a bilingual format by in-house subject matter experts to ensure maximum reach and effectiveness.
Commenting on the initiative, Cmde Hemant Khatri, Chairman and Managing Director of HSL, said, “Contractor workmen are the backbone of HSL's operations. By empowering them with the right skills, we are building a stronger, more efficient, and more effective workforce that will contribute significantly to the Nation’s Maritime Might.”
This reskilling drive follows the recent implementation of a Group Personal Accident Insurance policy for contract workmen, further demonstrating HSL’s sustained focus on the welfare and empowerment of its workforce. The company has confirmed that similar training programmes will be conducted throughout the year as part of its long-term workforce development strategy.
