Seth Walchand is celebrated as the founder of India’s first greenfield shipyard—Scindia Shipyard, now Hindustan Shipyard Limited—as well as the country's first aircraft and car manufacturing facilities. He played a pivotal role in shaping India’s path towards industrial self-reliance.

National Maritime Day marks the historic voyage of SS Loyalty, the first Indian-owned ship under Scindia Steam Navigation Company, which set sail from Mumbai to London on April 5, 1919. The event symbolized a bold assertion of Indian presence in global maritime trade and remains a landmark moment in India’s shipping history.

Reaffirming its commitment to the legacy of Seth Walchand, HSL continues to contribute to the nation’s defence and shipping sectors by building modern, technologically advanced vessels. The shipyard remains aligned with the government’s vision of an *Atmanirbhar Bharat* (self-reliant India).

As part of the day’s celebrations, HSL hosted an industrial visit for 25 specially abled children from Hyderabad along with members of the Confederation of Indian Industry – Young Indians (CII-Yi). The visit offered participants a firsthand experience of India’s shipbuilding capabilities and served as an inspiring learning opportunity.

HSL's continued dedication to its founder’s ideals underscores the company’s role as a vital player in India’s maritime and defence ecosystem.
