New Delhi/Vizag: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), a prominent player in India’s shipbuilding industry, hosted a high-level delegation from Toshiba’s Battery Division, Japan, on Tuesday. The visit marked a strategic step toward exploring advanced energy storage solutions tailored for the maritime sector, aligning with India’s "Make in India" initiative.
The delegation, led by Sato Goro-san, Group Head of Battery Sales and Business Development at Toshiba Japan, included Kazutaka Nishimura-san, Director of Toshiba India, and Rakesh Trakru, Sales Incharge of Toshiba India, alongside Maninder Singh from the LWT Group.
Cmde Girdeep Singh, Director of HSL, welcomed the team and presented the shipyard’s strategic vision, emphasizing its commitment to integrating innovative technologies that meet the evolving demands of the maritime industry.
The discussions revolved around Toshiba’s advanced Lithium Titanium Oxide (LTO) battery technology, known for its exceptional safety, reliability, and adaptability to the harsh marine environment. The potential collaboration among HSL, Toshiba, and LWT aims to develop Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with complete rack integration, addressing India’s maritime energy storage requirements.
Speaking on the occasion, Sato Goro-san expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Collaborating with one of India’s most prestigious shipyards is a tremendous opportunity to bring Toshiba’s cutting-edge energy solutions to the Indian maritime sector. We are excited about the prospects of contributing to sustainability and innovation in shipbuilding.”
Cmde Girdeep Singh echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential of the collaboration to drive self-reliance. “We are thrilled to explore Toshiba’s advanced LTO cell technology and, in collaboration with our partner LWT, aim to manufacture complete Battery Energy Storage Systems right here in India. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision under the ‘Make in India’ program, driving self-reliance while delivering world-class solutions,” he said.
The initiative underscores HSL’s dedication to energy efficiency and sustainability, strengthening its position as a leader in adopting state-of-the-art technologies. This collaboration is expected to pave the way for a new era of innovation in India’s shipbuilding industry, meeting global standards and bolstering the country’s maritime capabilities.
