India has so far installed 933 EV charging stations across the country: CEA

In its latest report, the CEA has said that a total of 933 EV charging stations have been installed in India until June this year

New Delhi: In its latest report, the CEA (Central Electricity Authority) has said that a total of 933 EV charging stations have been installed in India until June this year. While 927 of these stations have been installed by various PSUs, discoms, municipal corporations, six have been installed by state-run PowerGrid. Leading the tally with the largest number of EV charging stations in India is Andhra Pradesh, which has installed a total of 433 charging facilities. A large chunk of these stations — 410 — have been set up by APSDCL (Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited), while the rest have been set up by APEPDCL.

Telangana has 160 EV charging stations, Karnataka 126

Next up on the list is Telangana with a total of 160 EV charging stations, followed by Karnataka with 126 facilities. National capital of Delhi is on the fourth spot with 78 EV charging stations and Maharashtra is on the fifth spot with 72 stations. 

Govt sanctioned 2,636 EV charging stations earlier in 2020

To give a further push to clean mobility in road transport sector, the Department of Heavy Industries had announced in January this year that it had sanctioned 2,636 charging stations in 62 cities across 24 states/UTs under FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) scheme phase II.

As many as 317 EV charging stations were allotted in Maharashtra, 266 in Andhra Pradesh, 256 in Tamil Nadu, 228 in Gujarat, 205 in Rajasthan, 207 in Uttar Pradesh, 172 in Karnataka, 159 in Madhya Pradesh, 141 in West Bengal, 138 in Telangana, 131 in Kerala, 72 in Delhi, 70 in Chandigarh, 50 in Haryana, 40 in Meghalaya, 37 in Bihar, 29 in Sikkim, 25 each in Jammu & Kashmir and Chhattisgarh, 20 in Assam, 18 in Odisha and 10 each in Uttarakhand, Puducherry and Himachal Pradesh.

'At least one charging station in a grid of 4 Kmx4 km'

With a view to address range anxiety, Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises Prakash Javadekar had said in January that in future at least one charging station will be available in most of the selected cities in a grid of 4 Km X 4 km. He said it will boost the confidence of users of Electric Vehicles and also encourage the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to launch the new electric vehicle models due to the lack of charging infrastructure.
