New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) has become the first PSU in India to issue digital Offers of Appointment through DigiLocker, marking a shift towards paperless and verified recruitment documentation.

The initiative has been launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Under the new system, candidates selected for jobs at IndianOil will receive their Offers of Appointment digitally through DigiLocker, allowing them to access verified documents from anywhere without depending on physical copies.

Safeguard against fake appointment letters

Apart from making the recruitment process faster and paperless, IndianOil said the system would provide an additional layer of authenticity and help protect candidates against fraudulent appointment letters and recruitment-related scams.

Fake recruitment advertisements and appointment letters issued in the name of large public sector companies have been a recurring concern, with fraudsters often seeking money from job aspirants by claiming to represent PSUs.

The DigiLocker route provides candidates with a digitally verifiable document issued through an official government-backed platform.

Indian Oil looks to digitise employee onboarding

Indian Oil said the initiative is also part of a broader effort to modernise its human resource processes and improve the experience of employees from the point they enter the organisation.

The company said HR systems need to evolve beyond administering processes and increasingly focus on designing simpler employee experiences, particularly as younger recruits are accustomed to services that are immediate, intuitive and digital.

By moving appointment offers to DigiLocker, Indian Oil aims to make the first step of an employee's journey with the company more seamless, secure and transparent.

The initiative could also provide a model for wider adoption of DigiLocker-based recruitment and onboarding documentation across India's public sector.
