New Delhi: In a significant step towards achieving the Indian Railways' Mission 100 percent Electrification, IRCON International Limited (IRCON) has successfully commissioned the first Traction Sub Station (TSS) in the Alipurduar division at Mathabhanga. This milestone, realized under the leadership of the Minister of Railways, marks a key achievement in the ongoing Electrification Project spanning the New Jalpaiguri - New Mal Junction - Alipurduar Junction - New Cooch Behar section, covering 495 route kilometers (RKM) in West Bengal.
The newly commissioned TSS will be crucial in enhancing operational efficiency across the region. By enabling trains to operate on 25kV Electric Traction without requiring traction changes, the substation is expected to streamline railway operations, thereby improving punctuality and reducing energy consumption.
This development aligns with the broader objectives of the Indian Railways to create a sustainable and eco-friendly railway infrastructure. The shift to electric traction is anticipated to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions, furthering the national goal of minimizing the environmental impact of transportation.
