New Delhi: India Energy Week (IEW) 2027 will be held in Kolkata from January 28 to 31, 2027. It will be the first time the event is being held in eastern India. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced Kolkata as the host city on Monday.
The fifth edition will be held at the New Town Convention Centre. Its theme is "Unlocking Innovation. Securing Energy. Shaping Tomorrow." The ministry described it as "the first major global energy conclave of the year." It said the event would bring together "policymakers, energy leaders, technology innovators, investors and industry stakeholders from across the world to explore pathways to strengthen global energy security and advance sustainability."
Adhikari thanked Puri and the ministry for bringing IEW 2027 to West Bengal, according to the statement. He said a successful event would help the state attract new investment, expand existing projects and create jobs.
The ministry said the move would give the region's companies and institutions a direct link to international partners. The shift to Kolkata adds "a new geographical dimension by providing a platform for businesses, institutions and energy stakeholders from the region to engage with international partners and participate in global conversations on energy," it said.
The ministry expects the Kolkata edition to draw more than 75,000 energy professionals and over 700 international exhibitors. Its exhibition and conference programmes will cover oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), refining and petrochemicals, hydrogen, biofuels, and digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI), along with other emerging areas of the energy sector.
The ministry linked the agenda to India's own energy position. It said India's energy demand is growing fast while the country tries to balance energy security and affordability with its move towards cleaner energy systems. "India's energy choices therefore have implications well beyond its borders, making the country a centre of the global energy conversation," the statement said. IEW 2027 will focus on "the technologies, innovations and partnerships required to ensure energy security, affordability and sustainability for the globe, especially countries in the global South."

IEW is held under the patronage of the Petroleum Ministry. It began in Bengaluru in 2023. The fourth edition was held in Goa earlier this year. According to the ministry, the Goa edition drew more than 75,000 energy professionals, over 700 exhibiting companies, participants from more than 120 countries and more than 6,500 conference delegates.
Seventeen ministers and deputy ministers attended IEW 2026, the ministry said. They came from countries, including the UAE, Canada, the Netherlands, Oman, Brunei, Myanmar and Tanzania. International organisations also took part, including the International Energy Forum, the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI) is organising IEW 2027, with Informa Markets as the conference organiser.
