New Delhi: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed pipeline projects worth approximately Rs 8,000 crore under various stages of implementation by oil and gas companies which will translate into big-ticket line pipe orders for the steel sector in India, an official statement released by the ministry on Friday said. Pitching for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Pradhan called for complete indigenisation in these projects.
GAIL is processing line pipe tenders of more than Rs 1,000 crore for around 1 Lakh MT steel procurement by September 2020 for a progressive supply of 800 Km line pipe from domestic bidders. This quantity is expected to be doubled by the end of the current financial year to boost Make in India initiatives and further the goal of a self-reliant India.
Project work along the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga — JHBDPL pipeline — has resumed in full swing post lockdown. The project aims to connect eastern and western India to each other and to the central natural gas pipeline corridor to enhance the availability of gas and to enable raising the share of natural gas in the economy to 15 percent by 2030.
Indian Oil is implementing 1,450-km-long natural gas pipeline project in southern India, at a project cost of Rs 6,025 crore. It has an approximate 1.65 Lakh MT steel pipes manufacturing potential in India at a cost of Rs 2,060 crore, in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd, a JV set up by Central oil PSUs for developing the natural gas pipeline grid in the North-East, is processing line pipe tenders of more than Rs 950 cr for around 73,000 MT steel procurement by July 2020 for the progressive supply of 550 Km line pipe from domestic bidders. This quantity is expected to be doubled by the end of FY2020-21, the statement said. The pipeline project is aimed at ensuring an uninterrupted supply of natural gas to all the eight north-eastern states, thereby accelerating their economic growth and helping in ushering a gas-based economy in India.
