New Delhi: Indian equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded on Tuesday, supported by strong buying in information technology stocks and HDFC Bank, as investors reacted to corporate earnings and a decline in global crude oil prices.

The recovery followed a weak session on Monday, when both benchmarks ended lower amid persistent foreign fund outflows, elevated oil prices and concerns over global economic uncertainty. Early market reports indicated that the Sensex gained around 305 points to 72,224.15, while the Nifty advanced 93.40 points to 22,458.50. Subsequent reports pointed to a stronger rebound, with the Sensex rising around 650 points and the Nifty moving above 22,550.

Among the 30 Sensex constituents, HCLTech emerged as a major gainer, climbing nearly 5 percent after reporting a 21.18 percent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 5,132 crore for the July–September quarter of FY27. The company’s performance was supported by improved margins and growth in its advanced artificial intelligence business. Its revenue rose 11 percent year-on-year to Rs 5,620 crore.

Other prominent gainers included Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HDFC Bank and Trent. The rally in technology shares provided significant support to the broader market, with investors focusing on quarterly earnings and business prospects.

On the other hand, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation, Maruti Suzuki and Kotak Mahindra Bank featured among the laggards in the early session.

In the commodities market, Brent crude futures declined 1.08 percent to $105.50 per barrel, offering some relief to oil-importing economies such as India. However, geopolitical tensions and the risk of supply disruptions continued to keep crude prices elevated.

Asian markets largely traded lower on Tuesday. South Korea’s Kospi came under sharp selling pressure, while Japan’s Nikkei 225, China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng also traded in negative territory. US equity markets had ended mostly lower in the previous session, adding to the cautious global backdrop.

Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers of Indian equities, offloading shares worth Rs 1,708.48 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.

In the previous session, the Sensex declined 547.65 points, or 0.76 percent, to close at 71,924.68. The Nifty fell 157.10 points, or 0.70 percent, to settle at 22,363.35.

Market sentiment on Tuesday remained sensitive to global cues, crude oil price movements, foreign fund flows and the ongoing September-quarter earnings season.
