New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on Thursday organised a one-day workshop on "Environmental & Forest Clearances, Compliance & Best Practices”.

Inder Pal Singh Matharu, Chairman, Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), Coal & Thermal, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC), Govt. of India was the chief guest at the event, which was attended by the members of EAC members from the MOEF&CC and other dignitaries from Odisha State Forest Dept., Central Groundwater Board, Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Odisha Forest Development Corporation, Chhattisgarh Rajya Van Vikas Nigam Limited, Directors of Coal India and its subsidiaries.

In his address, Matharu emphasised on contributing for conservation of biodiversity as a part of service to the nation. “We need economic growth of the country, but not at the cost of environment,” he said, motivating executives of coal mining and thermal industries to serve the nation with environmental consciousness.

Earlier, the guests were warmly received by MCL CMD Uday Anant Kaole accompanied by Functional Directors and the CVO.

Participants at the workshop included officers of Coal India and its subsidiaries; senior officials from other PSUs and industries such as NTPC, NLCIL, SCCL, Vedanta, Hindalco, JSW; as well as professors from NIT Rourkela, IIT Bhubaneswar, and Sambalpur University.
