New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey visited Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) on Tuesday to review the company’s operational performance, ongoing initiatives and future growth strategy.

During the visit, the Minister held discussions on coal production, dispatch, mine safety, operational efficiency and sustainable development initiatives being undertaken by the company.
Dubey also visited the Kunustoria Area of ECL, where he was received by Satish Jha in the presence of senior officials, including directors and heads of departments. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented to the Minister during the visit.
At the review meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of balancing coal production with environmental responsibility and encouraged the adoption of modern and sustainable mining practices. He appreciated ECL’s performance during FY 2025-26 despite operational challenges and lauded the company’s initiatives in scientific mine closure, renewable energy integration and First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects.

Dubey said that FMC projects would help reduce air pollution, improve logistical efficiency and promote environmentally friendly coal transportation. He also appreciated ECL’s efforts in expanding solar energy installations and promoting cleaner energy practices within mining operations.
The Minister further advised the company to adopt systematic stock verification measures for ensuring accuracy in declared coal stock. Referring to global energy challenges, he underlined the critical role of ECL in strengthening India’s energy security and expressed confidence that the company would achieve higher operational and developmental milestones in the future.
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s energy security and appreciated the contribution of ECL, one of the oldest subsidiaries of Coal India Limited, towards meeting the nation’s coal and energy requirements.
