Nitin Gadkari announces transformative road projects in Maharashtra & Nagaland

PSU Watch Bureau

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari recently shared updates on two significant road projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and fostering economic development. The projects include the four-laning of the Sinnar-Shirdi section of NH-160, including the construction of the Sinnar Bypass in Maharashtra, and the development of a 25 kilometre 2-lane highway from Chakabama to Zunheboto in Nagaland.

Sinnar-Shirdi project

Highlighting the significance of the Sinnar-Shirdi project as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojna, Gadkari emphasised its dual importance like providing a dedicated route for Sai Baba devotees making their pilgrimage to Shirdi on foot and acting as an economic catalyst for rapid development in the surrounding areas. The project aims to substantially reduce travel time between Shirdi and Nashik/Trimbakeshwar, two major religious towns in Maharashtra. Moreover, the initiative incorporates sustainable practices to minimise the carbon footprint and alleviate traffic congestion. Notable techniques include the use of plastic waste in the construction of service roads, Cement Treated Base (CTB) and Cement Treated Sub Base (CTSB), and Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) for the road's surface.

Expressing the commitment of the government, Gadkari focused on creating an efficient and eco-friendly mobility network while promoting the holistic development of the region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Road project in Nagaland

In another development, the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways shared details about the road project in Nagaland on Tuesday. The 25 KM 2-lane highway with hard shoulders, spanning from Chakabama to Zunheboto, is aimed at bolstering connectivity with neighboring states in the northeast region. The project aims to provide efficient, sustainable, and economical transportation options for all commuters, supporting the economic progress of the region.

Further, the statement noted that Gadkari reaffirmed the government's commitment to delivering top-tier highway infrastructure in the northeast region, playing a crucial role in catalysing its economic growth.
