New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) did find any suitable candidate for the post of Director (Commercial) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a 'Maharatna' Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel. The board has decided not to recommend any candidate for the said post.

The decision was taken during the PESB meeting No. 68/2025 held on Wednesday. A total of 12 candidates were interviewed for the coveted position, most of whom are serving senior officials from SAIL, along with executives from other major PSUs such as Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), NTPC Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), MECON Limited, NMDC Limited, and Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd.

Despite the wide pool of experienced candidates—including Executive Directors and Chief General Managers with key responsibilities in coal imports, sales, logistics, and marketing—the Board chose not to make a recommendation. Instead, it has advised the concerned administrative ministry to explore alternative methods of selection, including the constitution of a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC), subject to approval by the competent authority.
