New Delhi: The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the evaluation, development, transfer and commercialisation of technologies.

The partnership is expected to establish a structured mechanism for identifying technologies developed within ONGC’s research ecosystem and assessing their potential for wider industrial deployment.

NRDC will bring its expertise in technology evaluation, intellectual-property management, licensing and commercialisation, while ONGC will contribute its research capabilities and technical knowledge in petroleum exploration and related energy operations.

The MoU was exchanged by NRDC Chairman and Managing Director Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.) and Tarun Kumar Mathuria, Executive Director and Chief of ONGC’s Keshava Deva Malaviya Institute of Petroleum Exploration (KDMIPE), Dehradun.

ONGC Director (Exploration) Om Prakash Sinha and senior officials from both organisations were present during the exchange.

KDMIPE is ONGC’s research institute specialising in petroleum exploration and subsurface studies. The collaboration could help take suitable technologies developed by the institute beyond the research or pilot stage and prepare them for licensing, commercial use or deployment by industry.

NRDC, which operates under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, works to bridge the gap between publicly funded research and the market by facilitating technology transfer and commercialisation.

The organisations, however, have not disclosed the technologies that will initially be covered under the partnership. Details regarding investment, commercial targets, revenue-sharing arrangements and the duration of the MoU have also not been announced.

The partnership’s impact will ultimately depend on how many technologies progress from evaluation to field deployment and commercial adoption.
