New Delhi: The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) emerged as a key catalyst for innovation and technology transfer at the ‘Innovate in Tamil Nadu IP Conclave’ held in Chennai. The event, inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, highlighted NRDC’s pivotal role in advancing intellectual property (IP) commercialization and strengthening the state’s innovation ecosystem.
Organised under the theme “Intellectual Powerhouse: Transforming Tamil Nadu into the Innovation Capital of India,” the conclave witnessed the presence of several senior dignitaries including Thiru Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services (IT & DS); Thiru Brajendra Navnit, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu; Ms. Vanitha Venugopal, CEO of iTNT; and Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director of NRDC.
A major highlight of the conclave was the technology transfer facilitated by NRDC. The Corporation transferred the innovative technology “Recombinant Ectoine from Deep Sea Bacteria for Skin-care and Cosmetic Applications (REB),” developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), to Varee Ayustruct Ventures Pvt. Ltd., Visakhapatnam. This transfer represents a significant milestone in translating research into real-world, commercial products within the skincare and cosmetic industries.
Further strengthening its ties with the Tamil Nadu innovation ecosystem, NRDC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT). The MoU reaffirms the shared commitment of both organisations to support technology transfer, capacity building, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship across the state.
During the event, Commodore Amit Rastogi presented a Technology Compendium—a curated catalogue of ready-to-commercialize technologies—to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. The compendium is designed to empower startups and MSMEs with access to cutting-edge innovations, promoting industrial growth and self-reliance.
Speaking on the occasion, CMD Commodore Rastogi emphasised NRDC’s commitment to bridging the gap between research and industry. “Through collaborative efforts with state partners like iTNT, we aim to accelerate technology deployment and make Tamil Nadu a leader in IP-led innovation,” he said.
