NTPC Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III to supply power to 5 states

NTPC Limited’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III (1x800MW) project will be based on ultra-supercritical technology and will supply power to five states

New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III (1x800MW) project will be based on ultra-supercritical technology and will supply power to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Maharashtra and Goa in addition to Chhattisgarh, said NTPC. The project will incur cost of Rs 9,791 crore. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 30 in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

The pit-head power project of NTPC Sipat will have the highest power generation efficiency since it is based on the latest state-of-the-art Ultra-Supercritical Technology. The commissioning of Sipat III – (1x800 MW) power plant will bring the total installed capacity of Sipat STPS to an impressive 3,780 MW. The move is in line with India’s plan to put in place 80 GW of thermal power capacity by 2030.

NTPC reports 4% rise in power generation in FY25

NTPC Group has reported around 4 percent rise in its power generation to 438.6 billion units (BUs) in the financial year ended March 31. During the FY25, the group added 3,972 MW of capacity, bringing its cumulative installed capacity to around 80 GW. Apart from operational capacity of 80 GW, additional 32 GW capacity, including 15 GW Renewable capacity, is under construction, NTPC Group said in a statement.

The company aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. NTPC, under the Ministry of Power, is India's largest integrated power utility, contributing 1/4th of the power requirement of the country. The company has also ventured into various new business areas, including e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, waste-to-energy, nuclear, and green hydrogen solutions.
