New Delhi: OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Maharatna public sector undertaking Oil India Limited (OIL), has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four municipalities in Haryana for developing integrated Compressed Biogas (CBG) and Waste-to-Energy projects.

The MoUs have been signed with the municipalities of Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Ambala in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, along with senior ministers, Members of Parliament and officials from the state government and OIL/OGEL.
The four proposed projects will be developed across the Hisar, Ambala, Faridabad and Gurugram clusters, with waste processing capacities of 500 tonnes per day (TPD), 900 TPD, 1,600 TPD and 2,000 TPD, respectively. Together, the projects will have the capacity to process around 5,000 TPD of municipal solid waste.
The facilities are expected to produce around 70-75 TPD of CBG and generate 50 MW of green power. The projects will adopt an integrated waste processing and resource recovery model involving scientific pre-processing and segregation of municipal solid waste.
Under the proposed model, recyclable materials will be recovered, while the wet and biodegradable fraction will be used for CBG production. The non-recyclable dry fraction will be utilised for electricity generation through Waste-to-Energy facilities.

According to OIL, the integrated approach is aimed at maximising resource recovery, optimising energy recovery from non-recyclable waste and reducing dependence on landfills. It will also convert different fractions of municipal waste into clean energy in the form of CBG and green electricity.
The initiative is expected to support Haryana's efforts towards sustainable municipal waste management and contribute to the national objectives of Waste-to-Wealth, circular economy and clean energy transition.
The projects are also aligned with the Government of India's GOBARdhan – National Circular Bioenergy Scheme 2026, which seeks to promote scientific waste management and accelerate the conversion of organic waste into CBG and other forms of clean energy.
